No job I've had was more difficult, thankless, and poorly paid than when I worked in retail, endless folding clothes knowing I would just be folding them again in an hour or so. Growing up in Ventura County I was surrounded by produce fields, and saw the literally back-breaking labor it takes to harvest them. Even needlework & sewing tend to be undervalued & looked down upon as they are traditionally women's work.
All this to say, all labor is skilled labor, and the hardest jobs generally pay the least. Tip your service workers, say thank you to them, and don't cross picket lines!
